Therian Safety & Community Wellbeing

The therian community welcomes people of many ages and backgrounds, including a lot of teens. This page covers how to explore your identity safely, kindly, and confidently — online and off.

🛡️ Dealing With Bullying & "Therian Hate"

Therians are sometimes mocked online and at school. None of that ridicule says anything true about you. Protect your peace: don't engage with bait, keep evidence of harassment, block and report when needed, and lean on supportive friends or community spaces. Your identity is valid whether or not strangers understand it. The #stoptherianhate tag exists precisely because this community looks out for its own.

🚫 Physical Shifting Is Not Real (Avoid Scams)

Shifts are real experiences — but they are non-physical. Your body cannot turn into an animal. Anyone claiming they can teach you to physically shift, especially for money or in exchange for personal info, is running a scam that targets young, hopeful newcomers. Walk away and warn others.

🐾 Quadrobics Safety

Quadrobics (moving on all fours) is a fun, legitimate form of exercise and self-expression. To do it safely: warm up first, wear padded gloves and knee protection (quad gear), tuck your fingers and put weight on your knuckles to protect your wrists, choose soft or even ground, and build up slowly. If something hurts, stop. Younger therians: it's best to have a safe space and, ideally, someone who knows where you are.

💚 No Gatekeeping, No "Fakeclaiming"

You don't need to "prove" you're a therian, and no one gets to decide your identity for you. We reject fakeclaiming and gatekeeping. Take all the time you need; questioning is part of the journey, and changing your understanding of yourself over time is completely normal.

🔒 Staying Safe Online

Many community spaces are age-gated (often 13+). Protect your privacy: don't share personal details, your school, or your location with strangers; be cautious with adults who seek out younger members privately; and tell a trusted person if anything feels off. Good communities have moderators and clear rules — use them.

🧠 Mental Health & Support

Being a therian is not a disorder. But if you're struggling — with bullying, isolation, or distress about your identity (sometimes called species dysphoria) — please reach out to someone you trust or a supportive professional. You deserve support, and you're not alone. If you're ever in crisis, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line in your country.
